M1 Garand Bayonet M5A1

M1 Garand Bayonet M5A1. This bayonet is in average condition. The bayonet itself isn’t too bad only issue is the scuffs from sharpening, but looks like it could be restored. The bottom of the scabbard has been crushed.

During the Korean War, soldiers found the M1 bayonet—made for the M1 rifle—pretty tricky to remove when they were wearing thick gloves. So, in 1953, the M5 bayonet was designed and put into service to fix that problem.

The M5 was a complete redesign, inspired by the M4 bayonet used on the M1 carbine.

It doesn’t look anything like the old M1 version and is actually the only U.S. bayonet that doesn’t have a barrel ring on the crossguard. Because of that, it looks a lot more like a fighting knife than a traditional bayonet.
